The Leather pride flag was designed in 1989 by Tony DeBlase, who wanted the colors to be open to interpretation.
One interpretation of the colors is: Black stands for leather, S/M and for permanence; Blue stands for denim, devotion, loyalty and community; White stands for safety, purity and innocence and the Red heart is for the love of leather, respect, consent and understanding.

The flag has two metal eyelets on the short side for easy attachment to a flag pole.
